So This Happened!

As a lot of folks know, I’ve been on an awesome journey of getting healthy over the past ~2 years. I’ve lost about 153+ pounds. But that’s not the point of this!

Because of the weight loss, and being more active I’ve craved new experiences that were simply unreachable at my heavier weight (~400 pounds). My most recent experience was to “try” and learn how to ride a longboard… It ended in breaking the 5th metatarsal bone on my right foot (I actually heard it go “POP”, a hell of a noise to hear!)

That happened on Sunday August 25th.

The surgery to add that lovely titanium screw happened on Friday the 30th and I have 6 weeks of being in the mixture of a Surgical Boot, a Cast and then back into the Surgical Boot and how can I forget the CRUTCHES!!

I gave myself one week. One week to get over my self pity and being miserable and down on myself. And oh good God was I down on myself. After all, I won’t be able to participate in the Canary Challenge that I trained so hard for.

Also, this week served as a learning phase. I had to relearn how to do everything and I do mean EVERYTHING!

Being non-weight bearing and one crutches adds an interesting challenge to my day to day activities.

That week is over. I figured out my way around the apartment. My cousin flew in from NC and helped reorganize my apartment (he actually did most of the work, and I watched helplessly) to better suit my temporary situation.

I am already planning on going back to the gym tomorrow. I’ve done some research on exercising while on crutches and was disappointed. There isn’t much out there. I’ll have to figure it out as I go…. I am excited about that.

I’ll be working from home as well, and that is also exciting.

Hooray for new challenges.

I’ll try to update this once or twice a day… It all depends if I find that I come across something worthy of noting down.

On a closing note, those carts have a surprising oomph to them and an awesome turn radius!
